Top Club and Clubmark Award

   The British Canoe Union (BCU) in association with Sport England presents this award to clubs who meet a rigorous set of standards.  Clubs wishing to apply complete a club self assessment form, which asks a range of questions based around the following four areas.

   *   Clubs activity programme.
   *   How it approaches coaching.
   *   Its duty of care and ethics.
   *   Club management.

   In addition it has to provide evidence in support of its application and submit a five year development plan.

   The BCU Top Community Club and Sport England Clubmark Award recognize clubs that are safe, effective and child friendly, who provide a varied programme of activity for young people.  Currently there are a total of twenty five clubs in England who have achieved this award with a further sixty six working towards it.

   Sheffield Canoe Club through its exceptional and unique facilities based on the river Don at Oughtibridge, its work with local community groups and organisations and the diligence and commitment of its volunteers, enabled the club to meet all necessary requirements.  We were granted Top Club status in March 2005 and are one of only six clubs in the Yorkshire region that hold this prestigious award.

   Our award is proudly displayed on the wall inside the office at Oughtibridge.
