PROOF OF MEMBERSHIP

A policy of members providing proof of membership prior to taking part in club activities is to be phased in over the remainder of the current Sheffield Canoe Club year. It is essential that organisers of meetings and events and Coaches receive proof of membership to ensure that appropriate insurance cover is in place at all times.

For the remainder of the Sheffield Canoe Club year, which ends on 30th September 2008, members wishing to take part in canoe club activities and events will be expected to be able to produce proof of membership upon the request of any committee member. This should be in the form of a valid membership card (or in the short term, a membership receipt). If proof of membership cannot be provided during this interim period, then efforts will be made to establish the reason for this and to rectify the situation.

Current 2007/8 membership cards expire on 30th September 2008 but will remain valid until the deadline for renewal which is 30th November 2008.

If you have paid your 2007/8 membership fee and you do not have a membership card in your possession, your card can be obtained from either the Baths Officer or from an organiser of a meeting at the River Don site. If they are unable to locate your membership card you should contact the Membership Secretary.

Because the vast majority of members now have internet access and email addresses, the proof of membership system is currently being upgraded to take advantage of this situation. Members who have provided an email address on joining or renewing from February 2008 will have their membership card issued via email. This can be saved on their computer and be printed as often as is necessary, and in the case of families, a duplicate copy can be printed for each family member. Leaders of Affiliated Groups and Districts will be provided with a card that they can print for each of their own members wishing to take part in Sheffield Canoe Club activities and events. The names of those individuals must be entered onto a card and that card must then be validated by the signature of Leader of the Group or District who is a full member of Sheffield Canoe Club.

Membership cards will only be printed for members who do not have access to email.

In due course, it is intended that hard wearing adhesive wallets will be made available for your membership card at the Baths and at the River Don site.
