SUMMER SESSIONS AT THE RIVER DON BETWEEN 6.30PM AND 8PM HAVE NOW STARTED ON WEDNESDAY EVENINGS DOWN AT OUR SITE AT OUGHTIBRIDGE

The River Don rises in the midst of the Peak District National Park and flows eastward for 70 miles through Sheffield and the Pennines until it joins the River Ouse at Goole.

The Don was once a major contribution to industry which lined its banks but is now a clean and idyllic waterway that has interest for everyone. Fishing is popular along its banks with Trout, Grayling and even Salmon making the river their home.

The stretch of river at Oughtibridge has been our site for kayaking for the last few years and has gone through many changes, the recent floods caused huge devastation along the rivers path but through the dedicated commitment of our members, and the help of local business, Sheffield Canoe Club can once again paddle the river. Providing a safe environment for novice and more experienced paddlers alike, the River Don provides us with much practice and enjoyment, changing conditions in water levels give us a variety of different features that everyone can enjoy.

Sheffield Canoe Club hold a National Slalom event at our site twice a year in April & September, this year, after our recent re-build of the site we had amazing feedback from the competitors saying the river is better than ever.

Sheffield Canoe Club paddles weekly on the River Don at Oughtibridge, we can be found having fun on Sunday morning's throughout the year and also on a Wednesday night enjoying the Summer months. We also hold special events which include a dusk paddle at the end of our summer season which is lit by candle light, an amazing experience for any paddler.

Our experienced coaches (click here to meet them) give members tuition at varying levels, providing training up to 3* in Kayak and Canoe to BCU (British Canoe Union) standards, this is all included in our pricing structure. Members also get the use of a variety of different club boats that they can paddle and try before buying their own, a big advantage for anyone new to the sport with such a huge range of models on the market. All equipment can be provided, the Club has a large supply of helmets, buoyancy aids, spraydecks and paddles.

Non-members are permitted to come down and meet us at our Oughtibridge site and paddle with us, therefore giving you an insight into the club and what we do before becoming a member. This you can do up to 3 times before having to join the Club.
